Maritime Claims-Americas, Inc. ("MCA") was established in 1997 in order to provide swift, competent, coordinated and cost-effective claims handling services to the marine industry in Latin America. It offers a dramatically increased level of service over that which has previously been available in the region. Initially operating in the Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Belize. Recently MCA has expanded its claims handling services into Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Trinidad & Tobago.
MCA's organization is uniquely positioned and particularly well suited to offer services as non-lawyer correspondents for the Protection & Indemnity Associations (P&I Clubs) which insure much of the world's shipping interests. MCA serves as the listed correspondent for several P&I Clubs within its region of operations. It also provides services to shipowners, charterers and other marine insurers who encounter claims problems in the region.
MCA was formed by principals of the New Orleans, Louisiana based law firm of Fowler Rodriguez; and the extensive experience of these counsel in maritime and international practice has been utilized in the development of MCA's organizational structure and operational procedures.
MCA also consulted with shipping executives familiar with operations in Latin America and with lawyers in the region for valuable input into the formation of its organization.
