Our correspondent in Belize is Mr. Michael Williams.

Mr. Williams has more than 40 years experience in the shipping Industry.

Mike has been an important promoter of Belize, its shipping and tourist industries. He has been on the ground floor during the development of NVOCC's. He presently acts for several of these offering worldwide LCL or FCL service. Mike and his wife Martha have been and are heavily involved in the Belize business community.

He has been President of the Rotary Club of Belize City and the Chamber of Commerce & Industry; Martha was vice president of the Chamber and founding member of the International Women’s Club.

Mike was a founding member of the Belize Port Authority and has been asked to serve again, especially with the challenges of ISPS. Mike is Consular Warden for the British High Commission. Martha was honored in the Queens New Years honors list to be a member of the order of the British Empire (M.B.E.)

Over the past few years they realized the potential of Belize as a cruise ship destination and they have marketed the Country with all the major lines. Belize is now one of the fastest growing Cruise ports in the world. From a mere 10,000 passengers in 2001, approx. 150,000 in 2002, 600,000 in 2003 and estimating almost 1 million in 2004. Michael is the Manager of Eurocaribe, port agent of all of Carnival Corporations lines (Princess, Cunard, HollandAmerica, Seabourn Seetours and Windstar) as well as Silversea Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Radisson Seven Seas, Clipper Cruises, Star Clippers and Oceania Cruises. He is also involved in tourist operations in Belize.
